On Merperson Limeade and Safe Kitchen Spaces
You've likely heard us use the term "safe space" when describing Nourish World Headquarters before. Well, what exactly does that mean? And what does it have to do with our (recently renamed) Merperson Limeade?

Human Rights Watch defines a safe space as the following:

"a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm"

Kitchens are notoriously difficult environments - hot, sweaty, pressured spaces where keeping the above statement as a priority proves challenging. But when we set out on our mission to create Nourishment in every way possible for a small business - to nuture not only those that use our service, but those that work for it - we built in a culture of acceptance, which has only gotten more important to us as the years have gone by.

Last month, Sous Chef Sara announced that they preferred They/Them/Theirs as their pronouns. We had a team meeting, and they discussed what it meant - that they wouldn't be angry if the wrong term was used, but that it felt like a little extra love, a little more like seeing the real them, if we used the correct pronoun. And so, the team agreed to, with love. And since they created our (formerly) Mermaid Limeade, we felt it was time to bring the name of that delicious beverage full circle as well.

Thank you for supporting us in our quest to heal, serve, and be kind to all. Happy Sunday, and don't forget to Nourish Yourself <3
