As you know, we take your health and well being very seriously at Nourish. That's why we've been monitoring this month's E Coli outbreak very carefully!
Back on April 10th, we got the first inklings of trouble via an automatic email from the CDC that alerts us to potential issues with food we use on our weekly menu. It's a robust system, and we rely on it to help keep our non-local food sources safe!
When we can't get organic romaine locally (like right now, at the end of winter) we bulk order from Costco. Costco issued a statement the following day, from Craig Wilson (VP of Quality Assurance and Food Safety at Costco) that said the following:
“We pulled every salad product that came from Yuma, or even had the potential to come from Yuma,” says Craig Wilson, vice president of quality assurance and food safety at Costco. “I think everyone is focused on following the advice we were given.”
We've been checking in with them weekly, and have been assured they're sourcing from Mexico, California and Florida instead of the affected region.
Of course, feel free to reach out to us at info@nourishcharlotte.com with any concerns whatsover! If you are not comfortable consuming the romaine in this week's salad mix, we'll be happy to credit your account.
In the meantime, we'll be switching to green leaf lettuce until our local farms are back on their romaine game. It's just around the corner, and for that we are grateful!
