The truth about Florence's effect on the animals of the south and how you can help!

We've all seen the headlines and the news stories. Reporters standing in waist deep water and hurricane force winds, warning people of the damages of the immense power of Florence. Some of these news stories have been found to be over-dramatized but there is one group that has had truly devastating affects from this storm and all large scale floodings that happen throughout the world.

This seldom discussed group is animals. Cows, pigs, chickens, turkey, cats, dogs and other conscious beings that are left behind as the waters rise, often in cages and buildings where they have no hope of escape. Thankfully, the media has taken notice in this most recent disaster and it has been released that "3.4 million chickens and turkeys, as well as 5,500 pigs" have drowned in the floodwaters of Florence. We're hoping that this increase in awareness will spur the creation and passing of new laws in agriculture that will more likely preserve the life of animals as well as the health of all living beings in the wake of a storm.

We have added a donation option on this week's menu to support Trew Love Sanctuary, a local rescue organization and sanctuary that is taking in some of the survivors that were rescued from the flooding by brave volunteers. To contribute, all you need to do is choose this menu item and how much you'd like to donate. Nourish will be matching all donations and sending them to Trew Love at the close of the menu next week. Ourselves, Trew Love and the animals thank you for anything you can contribute.
